Tokay Behavior with Hatchlings

Dakman Mar 02, 2004 02:30 PM

I've seen a few posts lately on removing Tokays eggs from where their layed. I would suspect the biggest reason is so the adults wont eat the babies as the vast majority of geckos would. Just thought I post this pic of my 2 day old hatchling hanging with a over 12" male. Dad will protect this little guy furousily if I try to catch him. He also don't like me checking in on the eggs. You can really see how small these hatchling are too but believe their not afraid of anything at this size.

1) Analyse if TSD applies for Tokays (I think it does, but data are somewhat confusing)
2)Prevent hatchlings from being eaten by non tokay cagemates. (Some of my tokays do live together with other lizards and even the fierciest male does not give enough protection to the babies to prevent them from being eaten.
3) Having built a new tank and wanting to dump the old one
