suitable cage size?

symatic Mar 02, 2004 02:58 PM

I'm planning on building my girlfriend a cage for her collared. I was wondering if 36x18x18, will this be a good size. The cage will have multiply shelves and two basking sites. I'm not too familiar will this species, so i would love input from you guys.

Also i am planning in putting a waterfall. It is going to be well ventilated (so humidity will not be an issue), do you see any problems with this?

Thanks sym

If you plan on putting double shelves...test a clamp light at that distance from your shelves to make sure you will not be putting shelves in those areas where you wish to have lights, etc. If it were me, I'd give up the height for a bit more length. I prefer floor space over height in my tanks. Why not go with the 18" high and go 48" long? Just kidding...we have to draw the line somewhere :P Your dimensions sound fine for 1.1 or maybe even 1.2 captive bred lizards. I would start with small lizards, and let them grow into the tank, rather than start with grown lizards and make them adjust.
