roachey56 Mar 02, 2004 03:17 PM

if i made my own cricket gel would i be able to put some calcium and vitamin powder in it to make it more of a water supplement? or would it all dissolve?

I don't know if the calcium and vitamin would degrade in the cricket gel you made...but I would advise to not bothering. Feed your crickets well and dust them when you feed them off. I know when I used to have to put vitamin liquid in my birds water dish, it would 'go bad' in less than a day and lose its usefulness. I rely on the dry diet supplemented with veges and fruits...then dust as needed.

thanks for the reply. I will always gutload and dust the crickets. I was just hoping because it would be awesome for gutloading if you could add calcium.

I don't think it's wise to sup your water with calcium. It will kill your crix, I think. Too much calcium is not good for crix I have heard. Plus, as stated, calcium can cause other problems in terms of spoiling the water. I use a good baby chick calcium chow for food and just plain ol' plant crystals for my gel. Been doing that for years. Then, dust with calcium. No mold, not mess and the crix live until eaten.
