Leopard Problem.... Not feeding.

Biscuit71 Mar 02, 2004 05:54 PM

I have posted a few times asking about feeding in the winter and all, but here i go again. I am about 75% sure there is something wrong with my female. My male is eating fine, so there are no worried there. my problem is that my female wont eat, and shows little to no interest. I dropped a few waxworms into the cage, and the male grabbed them up. the female grabbed at one, held it in her mouth, dropped it, picked it up again, and then dropped it once more, just to move away. And then something else that clued me in is that when she shed, she didn't eat any of it... just kind of left it laying around the cage.
She seems to be losing weight now, and her tail is looking alot smaller to me.... maybe i am imagining it all, and she is fine, but what can i say... I worry about the little guys..
Any and ALL assistance would be a great help... Thanks..

that sounds like a very major problem. put her in a separate, quarantine cage right away (or the male, one or the other), and take her to a vet.

Hi

Since you keep her in with the male, could she be pregnant?, Although I might not tend to think so since you said she is loosing a noticeable amount of weight.

You probably should take her in to have a fecal test done to see if she may have parasites. If you do take her in and the test is positive, then you will need to treat her and any other gecko in the tank with her. If it is just the male, chances are that you could just take his weight in with you and the vet. could calculate the dosage from that.

So you have to possibilitys above to think about.

I'm not thinking it is a problem with parasites as they have been housed together for about a year and a half. as for a fecal test, honestly, i dont think she HAS gone in a long time from what i can tell. I was thinking along the lines of being eggbound or maybe impacted in some way. Can a vet treat that?

Hi

What king of substrate do you keep your gecko on, to were you think she is impacted?.
