Stonewashed Pastels Vs Lemon, Bell & Graziani

Greg Graziani Mar 02, 2004 08:13 PM

I have yet to see a Stonewashed Pastel in person but the pics I have seen are awesome! To my knowledge all of the Pastel lines are compatable & our line as well as the Bell line have produced Stonewashed animals but only in the Super form. Here are a couple of Supers from our line. The Stonewashed Super was produced by Mark Mandic of Markus Jayne & is now in our collection. The other 2 Supers were produced here. The Stonewashed Super was produced by breeding a pair of F2 offspring from our bloodline together. Mark was the first to attempt this with our bloodline & it payed off big!
I think that the Stonewahed Pastel is one end of the spectrum & the Lemon line from NERD is the other side of the Pastel spectrum, with its bright yellow & crisp tight black pattern. We have been breeding Pastels since 1997 & every year we learn a little more on how to refine the looks we want!

The cool thing about the Stonewashed Pastel is that it was achieved by breeding the Stonewashed dad to normal females. I have another male from the same dad and he looks totally different, but he still looks very different than other Pastels.

No, and that brings up an interesting point about choosing your females for your Pastels, Cinnamons, Mojaves...In other words does it definately make a difference about the females coloration and pattern? I think it does, but what does everyone else think?

We have found that it definitely matters which normal females you breed your males to. We have bred a Pastel to tight crisp patterned normals & produced lemon pastel looking babies & we have bred a Pastel to stonewashed patterned normals & produced stonewashed looking babies. To clarify all of the offspring were Graziani Pastels not from Lemon line Pastels or Stonewashed line Pastels. They just had similar appearances.

By chance, have any updated pics of a pewter......would love to see one! My opinion.......it was the best looking "creation" of '03 that I missed.

Thanx

Regardless of lineage all pastels are by far very neat animals.
