"colorfast" ontogeny of JCP

terrapene Mar 02, 2004 08:34 PM

Does anyone have any bright yellow JCPs that held their color past 5 years of age? I have attached a photo of mine when she was 2.5 years old, and she was stunning. She is still good looking at her current age 6 years, but now she has more of an "egg nog" yellow and is far less vivid. Her yellow scales are also developing more black infiltrate. Does anyone have any older JCPs that truly hold a bright yellow color as they age? If so, does this trait appear strongly inheritable?

Matt Turner has a couple jcps that have maintained their yellow well past five years. I believe the following is about ten right now.

I have a male that stayed brilliant until about 6.5 years of age. A little melanin has crept in now. Here is a pic at about six.

Thanks, Tim, I really enjoyed the photos. I guess I will continue my pursuit to find a JCP like that, because they do exist. I bought mine when she was slightly less than one year old (Sipperly stock)and she was nearly flourescent yellow. Like many JCP fans, I truly enjoy the high yellow/dark black specimens. Any hints on how to purchase a specimen that will have "holding power" for it's colors?
