where to find adult rainbows?

H20lizard Mar 02, 2004 08:34 PM

I would like to attempt to breed rainbow boas. I have been interested in them for a long time and already have 3 boa species. I would really like to find one male adult and one female adult. I was mainly wondering how much they go for and if anyone knows where any are available. I would prefer not to go through a large place like LLL and would rather go through a private breeder.

thanks for any input!

p.s. I already have a cage set up but i dont plan on purchasing a snake for another month or so. The cage is a 60 long, slightly moist bedding, full of fake plants, really beautiful, just looking for a filler. Has a CHE and thermostat and has constant humidity levels over 80%!

It's probably not the best time of year to purchase nice adult rainbows because alot of breeders will hang on to them since they could be gravid at this time, unless the are importers and have recently acquired some wild caught. I don't think you could purchase even a proven pair and expect them to breed this coming winter, but they might if their care has been good and they are mature enough.

I paid 600 for my pair of 3 or 4 yr olds at retail pricing. My guess is mine where high, but they did have a litter within 16 months.

Keep checking the classifieds, someone may have some to offer.

Yeah, i know how that goes. All the breeding is being done right now. I just figured, that there are a few breeders of RTB's that have some adults for sale and maybe some rainbow breeders did as well (hold backs or yearlings). I don't expect babies this year, even if i got a pair this year.

600$ seems a little high for what i have seen, BUT, for for 3-4 year olds, that doesnt seem bad.

I also don't need a proven pair, or snakes from the same place.

thank you for your help!
