Urgent question.

I've got a rather major question: is the leopard gecko considered an "exotic" species? I ask because I just found out that my county is considering banning all exotics on 'safety' grounds and I'm going to be pissed if they're trying to ban something as safe and docile as my leo! And if leo's are considered exotic does anyone have any information I could use to argue in front of the city council for their exclusion from the list?

yes, all reptiles are considered "exotics". But in my home...a dog or cat would be exotic to us, LOL.

anything that is not native, would be considered exotic. Eg: Not native to the US would be exotic. But the definition depends on what animal you are talking about, and mostly where you live, if those animals are found where you live, no...they are not exotics.

Bloody wonderful; know of any facts or information I could use to attempt to counter this ban attempt? I'm not even sure what they're proposing to ban, but I heard it on the news about 15 minutes ago and I'm flipping out here...

For the most part, I wouldnt worry, not many ban's actually follow through, except for in California, lol.
But ive never really dealt with this before, so im not sure how to go about it. Perhaps try calling up the USDA to get more info, they may have it.

(This is why I LOVE Texas! LOL)

I heard a really nasty rumour that Washington state just passed a ban on exotics and now they are just waiting for it to get signed. If this is true? I wonder what will be considered exceptable to own.
I live in California and have learned to accept the crappy restrictions. I just fear a no reptile policy happening in the united states. I can understand banning ownership of lions and tigers and bears oh my. It's just a shame that snakes and harmless geckos and other lizards have to fall under the same catagory. Well thats my two cents and thanks for reading it.

I love living in California. The restrictions aren't that bad. I really can't think of any restrictions that I disagree with

Hehe, talk to a sugar glider owner in California and they'll tell you how "happy" they are with Cali exotic laws. We're one of the few states that ban them.

Yeah, but as long as you have permits you can have anything, right?

Rick Mar 03, 2004 12:11 AM

Los Angeles County requires a permit for all snakes over 5'. I don't think you can have a sugar glider or ferrets or gerbils anywhere in the state. I don't think you can have them unless you have a zoo lic.

That's what happens when liberals are allow to run amok. It's okay when they attack someone else's rights like smokers or drinkers but sooner or later they finally get around to attacking your rights, too! How do I know it's liberals? I'm just taking a wild guess but isn't it always?
