Ackie substrate for Vision cages?

Arklier Mar 03, 2004 12:56 AM

I have two full grown ackies that live apart (they hate each other, go figure), and due to a recent cage shuffle, one has been moved to a more spacious Vision cage. The one drawback is that you can't have a deep dirt substrate for Visions because of the low litter dam. I'm looking to sell this ackie, so what can I use as a substrate on a temporary basis that won't stop up the tracks that the glass doors slide on?

you can place a rubbermaid tub in there full of the substrate you prefer, dirt, etc.

This will allow it to dig but yet not have it come flying out of the cage.

Hi,
I had a large cage with a drop down door, so I had a piece of plexiglass cut a little shorter than the length of the cage and about 6 inches high to make a dam in the front so the cage could hold more substrate. You can just use aquarium silicone and attach it to the vision cage. When you sell the ackie you can just pull the silicone off to remove the plexiglass and the cage is back to its' original configuration. It cost me about $5.00.
