Why all the regurging?

Snakey Jun 10, 2003 02:21 PM

I have had this WT for about a month now ad notice that it is constantly regurging its meals starting appx 3 wks ago. Sometimes it'll hold the food down but often comes back up. One person told me it could be from the hair of the mice. So I tried giving it a few rats pinks. It took 3 and then today released them. The thing is that this time it looks like it has fecal material on it but yet they are totally undigested, just a bit disfigured. For the record my bask is 125 solid, and the ambient temp is about 78-80 night and 80-83 day. The cage is 7ft X 3 1/2ft X 30in tall. The WT is 2 ft total legnth.

Thanks in advance.

They requrg for many reasons. The most common are, dehydrated, to cool, sick.

For the first, clean water, for some stinking reason, monitors do not like to drink dirty water.

Second, Temps, they must be useable temps. Having a certain temperature hot spot is great, unless they don't use it. They need to use the hotspots. There are a million reasons why they will not use a hot spot, and being too hot is rarely one of them(unless its over 175F or so)

Third, Being sick, take to vet have it fixed. While there, try and learn what caused it and how to avoid it. Not how to treat it.

Oh and hair does not do anything harmful, period. EXCEPT, if the monitor is near dead already. Its actually required, you try absolutely no roughage and see how you like it. Cheers Frank

1. Yeah, the water is totally clean. As a matter of fact it was cleaned the day we(the lizard and I) got back (Sun) from going home. When I got back I placed him in the tepid water and let him soak. Ever since he hasn't been in it from what I have seen.

2. Yes, he is moving to the basking spot, to near it, to the several hides that are hidden around.

3. I plan on taking it to the vet but I have to do some searching around for one nearby. I think there is one a few hours away. I'll have to ask around.
4. I wouldn't want to imagine if I didn't have any roughage, all that comes to mind is "&^*$ @%$%$%#$%# 3#$%#$$%#"...Thanks.

In 17 years of monitor keeping, the only regurging I ever had was from a wild caught Nile that had worms BAD.The food would actually be puked back up loaded with worms!Low temps too,but I've never had that happen.A vet would be the best bet if the temps are good.
