photo of my leo's foot

schwan Mar 03, 2004 11:10 AM

this is a picture of the "good foot" which is worse then it was yesterday (see yesterday's post.) sorry so blurry. he is definitely having problems shedding around it. it certainly is swollen today! it totally seems to be infected. i put some hydrogen peroxide on them today--which he was NOT happy about. then i soaked him in some warm water to clean them off, and then i put a little povidone iodine on them with a q-tip, and he was pretty miserable about the whole thing. he even decided to bite me at one point. interestingly, the foot in the photo seems way more sensitive to him then the one with the scabs and the missing toes. i cried a little when i was treating him because i knew it was hurting him. i wish i knew what happened!!!

i'm going to try to find a herp vet in the portsmouth nh area so that i can take him in. wish me luck...

I'm having the same problem with my leo, but only on one toe and on the tip of his tail. I asked for help on here but no one replied. So, I soaked him for a while in warm water, which didn't seem to help. Then I went out and got some triple anitbiotic ointment and put it on his toe and tail. I'm just waiting now to see if it gets better. If it persists, then I'm going to take him to the vet. I know I wasn't much help, but I do know where you are coming from.

You really have to be persistant at trying to get the shed off. Sometimes it takes awile. The tip of the tail thing happened to one of my females earlier this year it was even a darkish color. But I kept working on it, making sure I soaked her or she was in her humid hide then trying to get it off manually. Neopsorin helped and finally I got it off with her next shed (with the help of twezzers and wet qtips) and now her tail has compleatly healed and she never even lost the tip. It looks normal again.
You just have to keep trying and if you are lucky you canget it off. If the toe tund black it will probably fall off with the next shed. Just be sure to keep it clean and apply neosporin and you shouldn't have a problem. But at any sign of infection be sure to get to a vet asap because you need to catch things before they get too bad....and spread like above.

I highly recomend everyone checking their leo's feet at least once a week. Sometimes they don't use there humid hide for whatever reason and it is soo easy to get the shed off before it has been on there too long.

Wow that doesn't look good. I would suggest not using hydrogen peroxide that really really burns, especially on an infected site. You should only use polysporin or neosporin(same thing).
Looks like he had soo much stuck shed on there that it is blocking any blood flow and caused a infection. I can't think of any other reason that would happen.
It is so servere now I think your only hope is a vet. If it was just a toe it woulded be so bad.
Does he have a humid hide to shed in?
Hope everything works out.

ok...no more hydrogen peroxide...

...i managed to find a vet nearby and have an appointment for him on friday. i hope he will be ok by then...i'll keep my eye on him and keep applying ointment.

i'll let you all know what the vet says, too. wish me luck,

Put him in a cool sugar bath..

Or mix water & sugar thick & put it on the swellings repeat 3 times every 30 min´s..

I don´t know if this will work.. But it helped a friends leo with swollen hemipene..
