BD digging

bcup Mar 03, 2004 01:56 PM

My gravid BD has been digging for over 20 days but she is not laying yet. she is in a laying box with sand which she used to lay eggs inside last time. now i have a couple questions:

1. How deep should the sand be good enough for her?

2. Is anything else better than sand? What if soil or forest floor?

Thank you!

50/50 moist sand and CLEAN soil (bought from a garden center with NO fertilizers in it)

Mine prefer no less than 8 inches deep. Best bet is about a foot.

20 days is an awful long time? How long has it been since you noticed she was gravid? You might want to get her into a vet if you have been able to actually feel the eggs for this long.

Most of my girls like it about 10 inches or more so they can dig way down. Depends on the individual animal really. 20 is a bit long, but try changing the soil and give her a few more days. How long she waits to lay is all dependent on the individual.
