tegu in the classifieds

heyslick62 Mar 03, 2004 03:30 PM

theres a tegu in the classifieds for 75.00 and looks like his health is poor. my wife said i could take the poor thing but i was wondering if it would be fine in my 8x4x4 cage, itll be with a bw and a red too. what do you guys think? would he be fine in that much space with 2 other tegus? also if hes got that metabloic bone disease how do i treat that and take care of him (i guess i should ask my herp vet about this)? what other diseases could he carry besides parasites? any and all info on how to approach this would be appreciated. thanks, justin

if its in bad health dont get it as it might have mites, ticks, parasites, diseasese, etc. Also a BW and a red tegu would seem kind of crowded in an 8' by 4' seeing as how they both reach 4 or more feet in length.

I would becareful about putting a Tegu that looks unhealthy in with your Tegus right away. I would set up a smaller quarantine enclosure for the Tegu until you can assure that it is healthy and will not pass anything on to your babies. Make sure it is in a completely seperate room. Your cage should be big enough for the kids for now. You can always build on can't ya?

whoa there- you could be heading for heartbreak. I would keep it in a separate cage/room for sure untill it is all healthy. Remember that lots of times rescues end sadly, so brace yourself if yu decide to go for it.
