Glue for porous rocks?

HLuterman Mar 03, 2004 04:25 PM

I would like to build my own hides out of local sandstone, so I need to find a way to stick the rocks together so they will not fall down and hurt the snake. If people who have done this sort of thing before would recommend brands of glue for porous rocks that are non-toxic to snakes (or any other method of sticking rocks together) I'd be most grateful.

Virtually any glue will work, with some being stronger than others. Silicon aquarium adhesive is often a good choice. A glue gun and hot glue is the easiest way. I would test some scrap pieces using silicon and hot glue and compare. You can also use the common 2-part epoxy glues sold in hardware stores.

Try and make the rock formation such that it can stand up even without glue. Then, the glue is only to keep it together and not needed for major strengthening of the structure.

If using silicon or epoxy, allow 24 hours before placing in a cage. Hot glue is completely non-toxic and there is no cure time needed.
