I keep reading cypress mulch is good, but, what is this?? I'm in UK and as far as i'm aware, we can't get hold of this. What else is there thats good, or an equivalent?

It is chopped up cypress tree's. You can also get eucalyptis, and many others.
If you simply want good substrate then use dirt/soil. This you'll need to experiment with. You want something that they like and use, it also must hold a burrow.
Just type in Dirt up on the search bar in this forum, you'll find plenty of info..
