Hi all,

I know that many of you use PayPal for your online transactions and I thought I would pass along what happened to me to today. I got an email for "PayPal" with a subject line:
Notification of PayPal Limited Account Access. It basically said that they thought a third party had accessed my account and I needed to go to such and such a website (with link) to log in and reactivate my account. I am a skeptic by nature so I did not use the link to check it out but went to my account via my saved bookmark, logged in, checked my history all seemed fine. I emailed PayPal about this from their online email in their Help section. Well, later today I got an email from suspend@ebay.com that commented on my eBay account being suspended and asked me to login via the email (within the email itself). I got suspicious and went back to the PayPal email and went to the linked site. As I watched the address bar (URL) I saw a flash of http://johnstownohioalumni.com.images/webscr.htm and then it rerouted to https://www.paypal.com/outlook. It brought me to a page that looked identical to a real PayPal page and was offering to use the PayPal wizard for OUTLOOK. I called PayPal customer service and they said it is bogus. I only logged in from my bookmarked site and not from either the link from PayPal or the direct login from eBay so I am OK. I also checked the full header of the emails and saw the return to an address @ yahoo. Most people will probably not be looking at the address bar and would never have noticed this – it pays to be computer savvy AND suspicious LOL!

I hope this isn’t too confusing but the point is if you get anything from PayPal with a link do not go there. A few things to be suspicious of:
There is no such thing as PayPal Outlook
The email addressed me as Dear then my email address. PayPal will ALWAYS use your full name
They will never link you directly. They will tell you to go to your account
If in doubt – check it out!

No legitimate business will EVER ask for personal info nor issue links to places where you need to enter your login info.

That is what portals are for. The paypal scam has been around for as long as paypal and ebayhave. AOL has them, Ebay has them, Paypal has them...just about any service provider that involves personal info has them. NEVER give out your personal info to anyone that requests it via email. All the major antivirus companies have a "HOAX" section where you can check and see if the email you got is a scam. Here is the link to F-secure's hoax section:

I know this and am constantly "enlightening" friends when they send me chain letters, virus hoaxes, etc. frankly it really pisses me off and I may have lost friends over it LOL! (no, actually I am very nice about it and have a "form" letter that I send out whenever I get one).

I posted this one b/c I could give specifics to folks and what to look out for - and maybe enlighten them as well.

I used PayPal from canada on monday and it was fine, the feeder company recieved my payment. Just in case, though, everyone be careful.

It's not Paypal - they are fine it's the mimics out there who try and trap the unsuspecting - (not a genius like myself)

Yeah, I've been a bit busy, sorry! It's that time of the year. Just had a beardie lay 26 eggs. My rabbits are breeding like rabbits. Still looking at my leos. Orange head roaches breeding happily. Still waiting for my veiled eggs to hatch.
Been meaning to get some mantids to start an experimental colony, but don't have time to yet!
