need id on small snake - Pierson

I went through almost all the snakes in the photo gallery and on the link you sent. It could possibly be a northern water snake. It looks, however, like a cross between a western and eastern hognose without a predominantly turned up nose. I guess it's possible in this area as the species overlap here but I didn't know they would cross breed. Our biggest concern was that it might be a juvenile cottonmouth as we've had adults on our steps and in our yard but we've cleared that. The head scales were all wrong and the pattern smaller and no heat pits and no slit eyes. I saw a pic of one northern that looked something like it. Will have to research on Google a bit and see what else turns up. thanks for the help.

Look closely at the head. If there is a row of small scales that runs in beteen the eye and the upper lib scales, then it is a hognose. If the upper lip scales touch the eye, it is probably a watersnake.

Is this close?
