First time keeper Q's

patm Mar 03, 2004 08:31 PM

I've been hoping to get arrow frogs for a while now, and I think I'm almost ready. I was just hoping I could get a few things cleared up before I start.

First, I'm hoping to keep D. Leucomelas. The tank I set up for them is a 29 gallon full vivarium (basic setup is here: http://badmanstropicalfish.com/vivarium/vivarium.html but the final pics have not been put up yet) How many frogs would I be able to keep? A local shop is selling froglets 3/$99, so I was thinking three or four.

Second is feeding. Is culturing fruitflies and springtails enough, or would I also need to culture flour beetles and/or something else? Also, I will be going away for 2 two and a half weeks in June, so if I set up a bunch of new fruitfly cultures just before I go, will this be sufficient so I can just have someone drop in a bunch of flies each day?

That's about it for now, but I'm sure I'll be asking a couple more soon.

Thanks,

Pat

3 or 4 will be fine unless you get two females which may fight.

Buy the frogs after you get back from vacation.

Flour beetles are too easy to culture not to have around, even if just as an emergency food source.
