Leos not eating

acmurty Mar 03, 2004 08:49 PM

I recently acquired a pair of sub-adult leopard geckos. In the last month and a half the male has shed three times and is really fat. But the female has not been eating. She is starting to get thin around her mid-section, but her tail is still really fat.
What can I do to get her to eat more? What might the problem be? Any input will help me to get her as fat as the male.
Thanks.

There are a number of things that can reduce their appetites..

- too cold tank (the temperature on the substrate at the warm end should be around 88 F to allow them to digest their food properly).

- the male might be bullying her

- infection or parasites

If she's losing weight, I'd seperate her from the male and keep a close eye on her.. and would take her (along with a fecal sample) to the vets to be checked for parasites.

Best wishes,
Pauline
