Melamine cages...the first one...

Niki Mar 03, 2004 08:50 PM

8 ft. by 2 1/2 ft deep and 2 ft. high, 3 opening screen sections
on top for light placement/adjustment. Equal to 300 gallons.
This cage is made of natural oak colored melamine sold in sheets
of 8X4 , the glass is safety glass (about $90) and is sitting inside
a grove that was cold chiseled into the melamine, and all corners
and connections are sealed with aquarium sealant (VERY smelly and
cannot be done unless you ventilate a LOT until it's dry), melamine
is extremely heavy and here we had 3 men moving it into our new
house when we got here almost 3 years ago. Teddy was 1 year old
and this cage lasted him another year. I gave it away to someone
on this forum who drove a few hours to my house to get it.
Always pre-drill melamine and use screws or you'll split it.

Aspen bedding, lights are off as Teddy is walking around
inside before he eats, which I would feed him on newspaper
in front of his house in the summer because he'd be outside
all day in his outdoor enclosure and came in at night only
to sleep.

8 feet wide, 6 feet deep, 2 feet high, white melamine including
the entire bottom. Door for tortoise access and custom screen
rack to hold lights. More pics of both cages and his current
tortoise cottage outside are on my website.
