Differences in BCI and BCC???

koenigspythons Mar 03, 2004 10:10 PM

I've been working with ball pythons mainly and am interested in getting started in boas. I was inquiring about the main differences in BCI and BCC. I know locality has something to do with it. But I have seen so many pics of both and it's sometimes hard to tell them apart.

Anyone have any easy ways to distinguish between the two just by looks alone? Also, I know it's probably not a good thing, but do people usually breed the two subspecies together? If so, what is the product that results in the breeding?

Just curious, I'm needing to further my knowledge between BCI and BCC and any help will be greatly appreciated. I apologize for my ignorance on this subject.

Thank you

B.C.I. Tend to be a little bit smaller when full grown. They also do grow though at a much faster rate. They are also not really "true" red tails. They are just "common boas". The B.C.C. on the other hand are true red tails. Showing usually a much higher color of reds and pinks. when young have had reports of regurgitation syndrome. Although i feel this has a lot to do with proper husbandry. The b.c.c. also tend to be a bit more nippy. the b.c.i are a little more predictable and docile in my opinion. If you are new to boas then i would suggest the B.C.I. but both are beautiful and amazing creatures. Hope this helps a little.
