gerbil caging

Could a cement tub covered covered with .5 inch mesh house a gerbil pair? Thanks

I think anything plastic will not be good for gerbils... they will chew on ANYTHING. My gerbils are in ten gallon containers. Those are a pain to clean, but since I use a dirt substrate (they LOVE it) I only need to change the cage every four months or so.
