I dunno about you guys, but for some reason i adore these little buggers so much.. Maybe its the tiny little fingers.. haha.. But anyway.. Do any of you forumers like to raise Slender Salamanders as well? Ive noticed that they like to eat earthworms ALOT.. I know earthworms may not be the best food to keep feeding over and over, but they get scared of fast-moving prey (crickets, small beetles etc.) , and wont eat them.. ive even tried removing the jumping legs of crickets, and they still wouldnt eat them.. perhaps i should dust earthworms with some vitamin powders?

From what I have read, worms are much better nutritionally than crickets would be (more calcium, etc.). In my opinion, you should stick with the worms as their staple diet. You might find some fellow Batrachoseps keepers on the forum at caudata.org.

Slender sals are pretty neat but very shy and will hide at every chance they get,ive kept them before and they seemed pretty hardy.I dunno how they eat earthworms unless you mean the really small ones.I used to feed mine live blackworms and small crickets.

well the batrachoseps i have will earthworms the same length as their bodies, the common misconception is that they will only eat tiny tiny insects. the earthworms just have to be skinny enough for them to be able to swallow. Since earthworms make the most movements on the head area, this will attract their attention the most, and they go straight for it. Earthworms are also very soft, and are very easy for them to swallow.
