I have an adult pair of columbian boas, and my buddy has to move and is giving me his adult female. Has anybody had one male breed 2 females in a season? Does it happen very often?

Hi,
Well I had this same question earlier this season. I wrote several big boa breeders and they told me they pair up one male with multiple females. Now they did not tell me how many but that would make at least two. For me, I paired my male up with 4 females this season. Now I know for sure 2 are gravid. The other two are questionable but I will be able to tell you later this year. I have no idea how common this is but my male was a stud this year and hopefully can perform as impressively next season. Good luck with your future breeding projects.

Did you move the male to the individual female, or multiple females per cage?

Hi again,
Well we always keep them seperated until the breeding process begins. What we did this year was move the male into the females cage and watched them over the next 3 days. If after 3 days the male did not seem interested we moved him in with another female (but he was usually interested!) So after we felt he was no longer interested we moved him in with another female. Sometimes we would give him a few days off and feed him a small food item and then back with the females. I guess we will see how successful it was later this year. Good luck with your projects!
