Using tongs

Have any of you had success with training your horned frogs to eat from tongs? Mine gets scared of it and tries to back off.

I feed my horned frog only from tongs and have been doing it this way for as long as I've had it, around 8 or 9 years. I don't remember if I had trouble feeding it at first but I would assume it might take a while for the frog to get used to it. Feeding with tweezers limits the amount of substrate that the frog ingests while eating which is nice but more importantly night crawlers, earth worms and super worms won't burrow into the substrate and hide from the frog. Good luck,

I would hold the tongs absolutely still and feed something that wriggles a lot, such as a nightcrawler. Instead of waving the tongs around in front of the frog, let them remain still and let the prey item do the moving. Just a theory.

I've been using tongues too successfully. when I first got my frog it was also scared when I came wawing with it, but after a while he got used to it. How long have you had your frog?

I've had it just about a month. Should I starve it then try using the tong? Thanks!

I mean, just wave or not wave the tonge infront of the frog. Mine was as I said scared at first, maybe he will take a bit soon? Just show him the cricket or wahtever you are feeding. Take the cricket on the very end of the tonge and get the cricket just infront of the frog. He will probably get used to the tonges. I don't know if it will work, just a guess. I'm sure it will be fine.

Good Luck!
