I haven't posted pictures here lately, so I figured I would share a few. I just snapped most of these last night so please excuse the quality.

Geckoheads And Geeks

That looks like a lot of geckos. I have a couple of questions. How many geckos do you have in your current collection. How much time a week total do you spend on their care(feeding, cleaning, the geckos and their feeders). Also what type of incubator or incubators do you currently use. I have about 30 geckos and I spend about 12 - 16 hours a week. I think that is about my average. 3 to 4 nights a week at about 3 to 4 hours at a time. Being a new parent it is sometimes hard to find the time. You have some of the best geckos out there and I just wanted to pick your brain a little.

I'm going to be a new daddy in a couple of months. I currently had ten leos and growing. How does it go with a new baby and all? Do you still have time for your animals. Did you loose interest in them at all? Just woundering cause people tell me i wont have time for my pets. BRYAN

Jeremy L. Mar 04, 2004 03:46 PM

Bryan, It is like anything if you want to enjoy something you have to make time for it. I don't do as much nothing as I use to(I don't even miss it yet). I try to make a schedule and stick to it. My family comes first but I have time for other things. I feed and spot clean my geckos on mon, wed, and fri. I do a total cleaning on saturdays. I spend about 2-3 hours on those nights with my geckos. I also have a dog she is a bull mastiff. I try to spend an hour a day with her just 1 on 1. Then any other time we spend with her as a family is a bonus. It isn't easy but it's not that hard either. There is no joy like being a parent. No one can explain or describe it to you you'll just have to see. Good luck and let us know when the baby comes.

Thank you!! I have two amer. pits. There great! I love all of my pets and think i will be just fine. I do plan on breeding my leos on a high scale, but i wont be going real good for a year or two. I guess we'll see what happens when the baby comes. Me and the wife do the pet thing together, that makes all the more worth the while. Thanks again. Bryan

you just have to find ways to manage your time better. Of course time spent with children is the most important, but I found I didn't lose any interest at all in my reptiles. I just make sure to make the time to get everything done with my geckos and also my children. For me this means not getting much sleep and being tired a lot, but it's no different (in my case) than being a workaholic, just more fun! My belief is that if ever turns into a situation where you say to yourself, "Oh, I am so tired of the geckos." then it's time to cut back.

How many geckos do you have in your current collection.
about 165 adult breeders and holdbacks, about 20ish '04 offspring so far

How much time a week total do you spend on their care(feeding, cleaning, the geckos and their feeders).
I normally spend about 5-6 hours a day doing gecko related stuff, sometimes more sometimes less but I guess that's about average. Keep in mind though, I never feel like I have enough time and I could easily spend another hour or two. I have a routine that I do daily, and I have perfected it over the years. I'll put it to you this way, what used to take me an hour to do takes me 20 minutes now as I have found ways to make it easier! I have 2 kids and a house to take care of also, and I usually get by on very little sleep!

Also what type of incubator or incubators do you currently use.
My male incubator is made by Bush Herpetological, and was designed for python eggs. It is a great incubator. I incubate all my female eggs in a walk in closet on shelves. I have an oli filled space heater hooked up to a Helix thermostat that is set at 83 degrees. The lower shelves get down to about 79, the top shelf gets up around 86, with the middle shelves all somewhere in between

Thanks for the compliments, and yes, I know exactly what you mean about being a new parent! My youngest son is 2 now, and it is starting to get a little easier to get things done and care for him, but he is still my little shadow!

*drool* That looks awesome!
Hopefully once the shed is done I can get something like that.
But then again, im never happy...the "new" will eventually wear off and ill want some different design, lol.

You keep your rhacs in there?

I don't think you have enough racks by the way. You should purchase a few more.

Heavenly days!!! hehe

Nice set up.

Holy how on earth do you have enough time to care for them?!
How many animals are there?

Do any of you pro breeders have a job? school? TIME?!

KelliH Mar 05, 2004 01:36 AM

I do have a lot of animals. It is a full time job for me, one that I love dearly and I wouldn't trade it for anything. It's no different than anyone else with a "regular" job, except I am lucky enough to be doing what I love to do. It would be so hard for me to go back out into the workforce and work a normal full time job after doing what I do for so long.

I am actually ordering more racks on Monday, although I am not 100% sure from who yet, I will decide by then!

I have some of my Rhacodactylus in those arboreal cages, the rest of them are in another room. I wish I had an entire room for Rhacs, i love them!

Those black racks are from animal plastics? PVC panels or what? Also i would like to see one of the insides of one of your rubbermaids. Man I thought I had some breeders! HOLY CRAP!

roi3in Mar 04, 2004 06:11 PM

the black racks are animal plastics and made of HDP ... its not a pvc ... as far as the inside of her boxed she can post pics of that

Geckoheads And Geeks

KelliH Mar 05, 2004 01:44 AM

Yes, I have a lot of leos. i am just a geckofreak, or, as Robin would say, a "Geckohead". All the shoebox racks on the left side of the room contain subadult holdbacks that will be moved into sweaterbox racks as soon as i get my new ones.

Here is a picture of the inside
