The great cricket escape! Some help is appreciated...

Nicodemus Mar 04, 2004 09:21 AM

So I bought some crix yesterday and this morning, most were gone! Yeah, they escaped in the night. I'd rather not say how, as I already feel stupid enough...I'd rather not share my stupidity.

Anyway...I lost along the lines of 20!

Anyone know of a good way to trap them?
Maybe just kill them?

I'd rather not have chriping crickets, or a breeding colony in my house....

I have no advice to give, but I can say I feel your pain.

THe first time I received a shipment of 1000 crix many years ago, I did not think about dumping the box into a trash bag and then from there dumping into the tank. Needless to say I had lost close to 100. That was 7 years ago and there are still crix in that house!

I feel your pain and hope someone has good advice.

flea bombs you can get at wal mart will work if you want to go through getting all you animals out of the house and staying out for a few houres then let the house air out for a while before taking animals back in

You could put out a few of those glue traps for mice. I got a whole ton of spiders in the basement that way. Just make EXTRA sure they aren't in an area where they can be accessed by kids or pets. Pets especially.

at least in the uk. They are very cheap and really work! They are baited with a small yeast-smelling tablet. Have a look on

I've only caught 4, but I havent seen any others. i also bought some glue traps and set those up, but nothing as of yet...I'm thinking they may have all escaped outside...

Hi,
When we moved into our flat in september we realised that there were mini crickets escaping from the vivariums, they were absolutely tiny. anyway we destroyed the vivariums and built more, which we thought had cured it, as we didnt see any at all since. All of a sudden in the last 2 weeks we have found 3 large crickets in the flat.

I have just purchased some bug traps but they will take a few days to arrive. Half an hour ago i heard a scream from the flat upstairs, the girl was shouting "get it off me, get it off me, what is it?" didnt sound like a scream about a spider, so now im panicking! does anyone have any ideas of homemade devices, that will hopefully attract the little things from the neighbouring flats! I found it hilarious as im used to it but i really dont think the landlord will find it funny!

I really dont think any have escaped during feeding as i am always extra careful. Anyway i need to kill them soon!

Thanks
Julie

I've lost literally thousands..

oddly enough I used find dead crickets, like 20-30 at a time, in spare 10 gallon tanks on the top shelves in my basement. I don't know why so many ended up in them, but obviously they couldn't get back out.
