Morph descriptions

IcedGoddess Mar 04, 2004 12:25 PM

I'm still working, however slowly, on the "morphs" section of my corn site. While I was typing up some information on them, I was wondering....How much is too much, and how much is not enough? I figured that just pictures isn't really enough, since some of them do look awfully similar, but then describing punnet squares and AA vs BB etc.. seems a bit much to try to cram into a general description of the snakes color and pattern. (for most people that is, not for you genetics geeks)

So for example, how this for an anery description? Let me know if it's too simple, or not simple enough.

Anerythristic A, A.K.A Anery and Black albino:
Black/Dark dorsal pattern on grey ground color. Black checkering pattern on belly. Most develope yellows along the chin and neck as they mature.

Should I add or take out anything? Should there be mention of the Anery A gene being ressesive? Or is that more than what's needed on a description page? (There will be pictures as well.)

Mostly I like it. Here are the changes I'd make --

Anerythristic, A.K.A Anerythristic A, Anery, Black Albino:
Like normal except missing almost all yellow/orange/red coloring. The most obvious differences include black/dark blotches with grey ground color on the back and black checkering pattern on the belly. Most develop yellows along the chin and neck as they mature. Recessive.

IMHO, inheritance should be included if known.

"Like normal except ..." means you don't have to include that anerythristic snakes have two eyes, scales, a forked tongue, etc.

I hope you are including "anerythristic B" in the A.K.A. section of charcoal. You also ought to say that charcoal and anerythristic are independent mutants.

My $.02.

Actually, I was planning to list anery A and B seperately, since they are proven to be seperate traits.

So it seems to be the consensus that people want a more "artsy" description of the colors? There's so many morphs I was thinking of keeping it short and sweet. But maybe I'll go back and talk it up a bit more now. Glad I only did three to start

I always like it when people use interesting descriptions in describing their animals or various morphs they own. It adds a little individuality to their collection and for some reason, a really good description reminds me of when they're describing some priceless antique on that show where people bring stuff in to find out if its worth something or not....oh there i go again...thinking out loud..LOL...sorry...
