dwarf mulberry trees for silkworms

poprock950 Mar 04, 2004 12:28 PM

Hi,
I was wondering if it is ok to feed silkworms mulberry leaves from a weeping mulberry tree (I would like to buy a small tree that I could use to feed some silk worms and the weeping mulberry apparently only get about 8 feet tall.)? Would it be safe for a reptile to eat them? Is there a place that sells dwarf mulberry trees or mulberry bushes online?
Please let me know if you have any tips or can point me toward an online nursery.
Thanks.

Yes, I have two of them, and feed the leaves to my worms and herps. I also bought 5 regular (fruitless white mulberry) trees. I much prefer the larger variety as they produce a LOT more leaves and the leaves are a lot larger. Also, it's a very good idea to wash and dry the leaves before you feed them to your worms. This is much more labor intensive when you are dealing with the smaller leaves of the weaping mulberry.--Its easier to wash and dry one large leaf than ten small ones!
