question concerning burgundy bp's

boapythonfool Mar 04, 2004 12:30 PM

How much would a pair of burgundy BP's go for? I got an offer for a pair of burgundys(the female may be gravid) for $350, is that good or not?

thanks for your help,
boapythonfool

they will most likely be wild caught and not a proven genetic line of burgandys

What if they're cb? I really don't like burgundys but if it's a good deal I'll get them. Also how big is their demand?

dbreptiles Mar 04, 2004 01:55 PM

firstly if you dont really like they you shouldnt breed them, but the demand i would say if unknown at this point as to my knowledge they are not available.

although $350 i think it is much more likely that these 'burgundy' are not much more than WC 'slightly browner than usual' ball pythons.

again i agree..lol
i have seen wild caught burgundies for like 600 or so but 350 for a pair sounds fishy.
also i wouldn't even bother breeding something i don't like. i understand that it would be for profit but i still can't see myself breeeding an animal that I don't want. i say screw ti & go for something you want.. also this way if you don't make money you'll at least have animals you are fond of.

I have seen many adult burgundy ball pythons on Kingsnake, in friends collections, and have a nice one of my own. What I have noticed is they are always huge, older snakes, and imports. I have a good feeling (bad for those with burgundy projects)that the burgundy phase of a ball python is due to the fading of it's colors with age, and browning out. This may not be true to all of them, but I think it is for most. If anyone has some nice pics of baby burgundies, Please post, because I have never seen one. There very well could be a genetic factor to the browning out, which could explain the lack of baby burgundies and the fact that not all ball pythons fade the same as they age. Again, this is just an observation, and until proven otherwise, an interesting hypothesis.

There are some pics of baby bugandy's on cuttingedgeherps.com. He has proven out his line of burgandy's and as baby's they resemble baby axanthics.

Maybe they are axanthics? Could not find that site; However, I am sceptical. If it is true, it is only one out of the many people who CLAIM to have burgundies. A lot of them are for sale. Why sell them? Because they are not a real morph.........yet anyways.

Sometimes they are wrong Vincent Rusello (sp) proved the Burgandy trait a couple of years ago and they are AWESOME!!! Check out the link and let me know what you think.
