Respiratory Infection????

98expo Mar 04, 2004 01:34 PM

I recently acquired a female JCP,and she appears to be healthy in every way.She doesnt make any noise or have any wheeze to her in her cage but when being handled she will regularly let out what seems to be a huff.Is this just her being aggravated with something?Or is this a sign of something much worse?Any advice greatly appreciated as reptile vets are few and far between where I am.

Judging by the picture, your snake looks like it has nice clear nostrils and no bubbling at the mouth. It is not uncommon at all to hear a JCP "huff" when being handled. Keep an eye out for trouble such as bubbles, blockage of the nose and lack of appetite. However, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Thanks,I didnt think there was much to worry about because of the fact that there are no bubbles or any drainage at all from the nostrils.I used to keep Retics and I had a big male that was always huffing at me,and same as her there was no gurgling,no bubbles, and a nice clean mouth.I still have to check with others any time any of my snakes does anything the other ones dont!!Never know when something that seems harmless could prove to be disastrous.
