My tegu came out of hibernation in a partial shed. After a few days of getting used to his new home, I soaked him in the tub for about 20 minutes. When I got him out, his old skin was just falling off. I helped him peel off what came off easily, but the entire tail would not shed. I soak him about every 2-3 days in the tub, but the tail still has not shed and it has been about 2 weeks. I know olive oil can help, but how long should I wait before using this? Is it natural for them to take many weeks to shed the tail? What if the olive oil and soaking do not work? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I have had the same experince in the past. I would just make sure that the humidity in your hide box is ok, keep up the soaking and watch to make sure that the skin is not "cutting" (sorry wanted to say some thing else, but brain out of order today)

I have never used olive oil, so I can't give you any info on that.
I have used Shed-Aid and Shed-Ease both seem to work.

hope this helps!

You could try aloe. That usually works great. I use it on my herps if one comes in with a shedding prob. Also check the humidity in your enclosure. I have personally seen and had experience with shedding problems from an enclosure being TOO humid and not being humid enough.
