Ever drop your mealworm colony on the carpet?

thegeckobarn Mar 04, 2004 05:19 PM

Well..I did that today with my breeding colony. Boy was it a mess.
But here's a helpful hint for anyone who happens to have this happen to them.
After I swept up most of the colony from the carpet, I noticed many were digging into the carpet very quickly, but I couldnt get them out. So what I did was ran my fingers quickly across the carpet and they all started popping out!
And after I had most of them out and back in the container, I noticed more coming out on their own! They obviously didnt like the vibrations of my fingers running across the carpet, so they all started to emerge in fear, LOL.

It was quite successful, and I managed to get the majority of my colony back this way! Altho im sure I lost many eggs, but they can be replaced

Just a helpful tip!

hahahaha, wouldnt be so bad...lotsa protein! But even if they did get loose, chances are you'll never see them again, since they like to burrow.
Mine actually feel off one of the racks when I was trying to unplug a plug from behind the shelf...oy.
Im a clutz.
