Fresh water turtles...where's the eggs?

Justin M Jun 10, 2003 05:22 PM

Hi all, I am not new to turtles or other reptiles and have been around lakes, creeks, and water my whole life. The other day I was thinking how I have never known about how fresh water turtles have their babies. I figure they lay there eggs, but there isn't soft sand everywhere for them to do this. So what's the deal. Any info will help. Thanks!

They come up on land a ways and lay them were they think they will be safe from predators. When they hatch depending on species they head for the water. If they dont they may get picked off by a predator such as birds and maybe small species of mammals.
