My Calking laid eggs........... Questions

FireDrake Mar 04, 2004 07:27 PM

She was bred on Jan 28th and laid 15 eggs Feb 28th, one bad one. Is that normal? I was under the impression they were gravid for 42-62 days. I didnt have anything set up, no laying box or the incubator, good thing I check her every day, got them in before they dried out. So the book that gave me the gravid number of days said the eggs incubate for 42-62 days also, what is average? This is my first calking clutch I had corns in the past, I am incubating the eggs at 84 degrees, is that right?
thanks

I have had many kingsnakes lay eggs 30 days after breeding. I never had any as early but mine come out of brumation March 1st. I incubate 82-84 with excellent results. Good luck.

I take my Cal Kings out of brumation march 1st too, lol. About when do you usually breed them? Just curious...bet it's at the same time too hehe!

I would incubate at 82 degrees myself. Did that for my cal kings, and they hatched at exactly 60 days. My blotched king eggs did not fare so well.. I was hard pressed to keep the temperatures below 86, and when the temperatures spiked to 100 (AC failure), they hatched fifteen days earlier than expected, the very day the AC went into it's death throes.

Congrats on your clutch! It's the best feeling!
