Out of brumation-Not eating much yet-I have a question

bugman98 Mar 04, 2004 07:47 PM

I have two adult BD. Both of them came out of brumation about the same time. It has been 10-12 days now. I want to try to wein them off of those nasty crickets. I have been trying Rep-Cal pettets. I have put them in their salad. Both small tiny pellets and the larger ones. I have tried soaking them in water and also fruit juice. They don't seem to be eating them yet. HOW LONG SHOULD I WAITE before I give in and give them crickets or I would probabley prefer the superworms. I feel bad making them go hungry for so long. They are also eating very little salad. Only one of them has pooped one so far.

Thanks

There's no set time to wait. But obviously that aren't THAT hungry or they would be eating salad and pellets.
If they wait to a point where they are losing weight, then I'd give in.

Well, first let me say that I would be very cautious in using only pellets and salad as the main diet. There aren't many long term studies done and personally, I and most feel that dragons get a happier captive experience when they get to chase down their prey. Plus, I think when bringing them out of brumation is THE WORST TIME to try to switch a food source. If they are breeding, you can't take the chance of them not getting enough nutrients! You should wait until they are done breeding for the season.
