PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE (Pennsylvania) 04 March 04 Crikey! Woman finds croc on porch (Joe Fahy)
A Frazer home had the appearance of a "Crocodile Hunter" episode last night when a woman returned home to find an unlikely house guest: a three-foot crocodile.
She found the animal in a covered container about 3 feet long and 3 feet wide, with a note that said, "please feed me," said Derron Patterson, an animal control officer for Triangle Pet Animal Control Service of McKees Rocks.
"It was a nice little surprise for her," he said.
The woman told the company she had no idea who may have left the black and tan animal in an enclosed patio area.
The woman could not immediately be reached for comment.
Patterson said she called police for help before contacting Triangle, which provides services in Allegheny, Beaver and Butler counties, about 7:15 p.m. The company picked up the animal about 8:30 p.m.
"I just grabbed him by the tail and behind the head, so he couldn't bite me," said Paul McIntyre, a manager at the company.
It wasn't a first for the company, however. Last summer, officials picked up a 4-foot-long alligator in Wilkinsburg.
"Sometimes, people bring them home for pets," Patterson said. "Then before long, they get big enough that they could take someone's hand off."
Patterson said his agency would contact zoos or reptile rescue groups today about the crocodile.
