drift wood dilemma?

lele Jun 10, 2003 05:30 PM

OK, I have begun to layout my pygmies new home in their 30 gal tank. I have a beautiful piece of driftwood that I have had for years, used in my garden. I have cleaned, bleached, sun dried, etc. etc. and it is all ready for the tank - BUT, now here's the dilemma - since it has been used in my gardens over the years the part that sits on the ground has rotted and has many cavities that crix and other little critters could just move into and make themselves at home. If I set that side on the ground it will be moist much of the time, if I turn it over so that side is not in direct contact with the substrate - well, it just ain't as pretty! It's a good size and will be the focal point of the setup - and I have my heart set on using it. So, how can I keep it raised, or away from substrate etc. and still have it look OK.

Sorry no pix, but I haven't gotten my digi-cam yet so use your imaginations - all suggestions will be considered! Thanks

well if you raise it the crickets will hide upside down inside it.

you could cut the peices off that are bad.

you could use some of those thin brick...sorry i dont know the name....they would raise it about an inch.

I had a big chunk of drift wood that i hollowed out so it was like a bowl when flipped upside down. then i mad a few holes in the side and my house gecko now has the biggest house he could imagine.
