i am looking into getting a savannah monitor soon but wanted to get a better idea of what they actually eat. I would like to know what and how much and how often everyone feeds theirs. Thanks so much.

That's actually a very good question. Some feed most insects, some feed most mice. And some feed all kinds of processed meat and cat/dog food, which is often too fatty. In the wild they eat a lot of millipedes according to Bennett. I feed mostly mice now, I think it works better than a diet of mostly insects. My sav tends to get diarrhea of insects if used too much.

I feed rodents exclusively now that my Bosc is over needing to eat every day. When she was eating daily.. I'd offer raw chicken wings with bones in them 3 times a week dusted with vitamins and the rest of the time she got rodents. Usually mice, gerbils or rats. Now she's on small/medium rats twice.. sometimes 3 times a week.. but the chicken has been cut totally out of her diet now. She's about a year old.. give or take... and approximately 30 inches long. I'll have had her a year May 20th.. but she is my first monitor so my regimen of feeding may not be what everyone would do. So far, its worked for me and I see no reason yet to change it.
