kyronb Jun 10, 2003 05:40 PM

hi, i'm new to the forums and a few weeks ago i found an injured garter snake who had a bump on his back and nothing behind the bump worked properly. i tried feeding him all the usual things that care sheets and such told me to try but he wouldnt eat any of it. recently i have been trying my own ideas and... well.... i now have a vegetarian snake!!!!!!!!!!!!! he goes CRAZY over this Yves Veggie thingy and i now hand feed him chunks of it. i dont understand it but he seems healthy and happy. anyone have a clue whats going on? i'll post pics of him soon.

You sure? This is VERY strange...not sure how healthy it is for the snake either. You sure you aren't just force feeding it? As far as I know the only snake that will even accept any type of vegetation would be Erpeton tentaculum, which if I remember just occasionally eats seagrass or something of that sort. Andy

no, i'm not force-feeding him. i can even just leave him alone with it and he'll eat it within a minute or two.. he seems quite alert and healthy. i can't explain it. tomorrow i'll take some pics of him eating as it will be a feeding day.

Is the bump hard or soft? He may have ingested something which is stuck and the veggie is his attempt to dislodge/move it along. Kind of like a dog eating grass.

What is that, some sort of veggie burger?

kyronb Jun 21, 2003 08:07 PM

well, it is hard but it doesnt seem to be something stuck, i this is might be some sort of dislocation as it is right on the backbone.

as for the food itself, yes, it is a burger.
