Trimeresurus gumprechti

grungpunker Mar 04, 2004 10:25 PM

I am new to the viper world of pet keeping and have bin looking in to species that I would be interested in purchasing. Now when browsing the kingsnake classifieds I notices a brilliant colored tree viper. Well that was what I thought. I tried emailing the seller with questions about the picture with no response. So the last few days I have bin researching and I think I have tracked it down to Trimeresurus gumprechti or I think Asian lancehead family. Now are there any other spices similar to this snake or similar colorations or is this a morph of some other viper. I wish I had the picture to show but it was recently removed from the classifieds. Thanks Drew

that's a picture of a male pope's pit viper(female has no red stripe). i have a breeding pair that i don't know how to breed(ha ha). i have been keeping and breeding snakes for many years, not asian pit vipers, but i should be ok. these snake have a very large striking distance, nearly their entire body. they can be very moody so be very careful. a few other snakes in the same family are white-lipped viper, hagen's and wagler's. i have a white-lip, that has never striked at me once. i have had it from about a month old, it is now about a year. i am look for a pair of wagler's, but finding good snakes seems to be hard because their WC. i deal with steve from serpents den. very good man. very helpful. good luck, Mark (newworldserpent@hotmail.com)
