Septicemia ?

diseasedstran Mar 04, 2004 10:33 PM

Not sure what it is. The vet called when I wasnt home and I got the load down on the two dragons and the male burm from the wife. Also to hear that Kacey died this morning from, And this is kind of good news, Kidney failer. So were hoping for some good luck here. As far as I was told, it's just some kind of bacteria or virus. And can spread by touch. Proably spread from when we were holding or working with the dragons and didnt wash up good enough before handling the snake. Or just by brushing up on the cage. Time to clean everything from floor to celing.
I'll keep ya posted.

Septicemia is a term used to define a condition, not really a disease. An animal is refered to as having "septicemia" when a bacterial infection has grown out of control somewhere in the body and has spread to the blood stream. Once the bacteria is in the blood stream, it can nestle into the heart, liver or other organs. An animal has to have some type of infection that allows it to become "septic". For example, an untreated RI can lead an animal into septicemia. Septicemia is not a condition that can be spread but the bacteria that caused the animal to become septic, possibly could. The onset of septicemia is not a rapid development, however if an animal goes into "septic shock" the death can be sudden.

I hope that sheds some light on the subject.
