Salvator update and timor eggs

Bloodbat Mar 04, 2004 10:38 PM

I ended up cutting out two more salvator eggs yesterday. The second one had a very large yolk sac but appears to be doing well today.

3 eggs began hatching on their own, 2 last night and 1 this morning. That leaves 2 eggs left.

Mushu was attempting to kill Labyrinth when I got home from work today. Apparently so much so that when I opened the door Labyrinth ran through the open door right past me (which he does only when being attacked). He ran all the way downstairs into the laundry room. That's where he will be spending the next few days because I have nowhere else to put him.

I came home and found my timor had laid eggs. I took out the male on Monday and she began digging on Tuesday.

Link below is to a webpage for the timors.

Is that a 4 foot trough?

Do you believe that trough (with a little less human visiblity) has led to breeding successes with the timors?

I think it would be fun to get a couple.

Yes, that is a 4 foot trough. It has about 10-12 inches of substrate depending on where in the trough you look.

I am not sure if the trough contributed to their willingness to breed. At least with these timors, there are at least several factors. There are lots of branches in the enclosure. They do not have much vertical height, but they have plenty of ground cover. They also have a hollowed out log that both can fit in at one time. They had some of these items when they were in a 40 breeder and a 55 gallon aquarium. For timors, the female was always a bit laid back. I do not know about the male as he has always lived in the trough. My blue spot, which no longer lives with the other two, has always been high strung and did not seem to calm down in the trough.

Both the male and female will tolerate me looking at them but they always have a quick escape/hide area. If nothing else, the size of the trough allowed me to add lots of branches in which to hide. The trough does prevent me from looking to closely at some of their hide locations, but so does the location of the trough. I think I would get the same effect in a aquarium if I could not look at that side, but I do not know that for sure.

Way to go! I am still waiting for my female to get comfortable and drop eggs. She has been digging around and yesterday was hiding in the substrate, which she does not normally due. She looks like she is ready to pop. Good luck with the eggs.
