Help and insight much appreciated...

I know I posted this yesterday, but I only got one response (thanks alice) and wanted to get a fwe more opinions from people. Jak hasn't been eating lately, if I put a mealie infront of her, she really doesn't acknowledge that it is there. This has been going on for about 1.5 weeks now. However, in this same time period, she has been more active then she ever has been. She's actually "begging" to come out of the tank. Whenever I enter the room after the lights have gone out (and a few times during the day) she will climb onto her rock and look up at the top of the cage, and will pretty much wait there staring until the screen cover dissappears and my hand appears. She climbs right on everytime. Now don't get me wrong, I love that this is happening, but the lose of interest in eating has me worried. Alice suggested that she might be ovulating, but I do not see any eggs. Jak has never been with a male, so she is not gravid. She's fed strictly mealworms, and is kept on papertowels. Any help and/or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sean & Jak

hey there, Mine did that too a while ago. females don't need to be with males to produce sterile eggs.
I figure mine was restless because after you let them out once they wanna explore.
Maybe check the heat, is there a hot enough spot for her, and maybe try different food like crix

good luck

I was thinking of maybe getting silk worms or butter worms and seeing if she would eat those. They are quite a bit more expensive, but would either or a combonation of the two be a good staple? maybe even the combonation of one of the two and mealworms once she gets eating again. Also, can silkies or butter worms be refrigerated?

i think that she is just "fasting" for the winter, come spring she'll eat again.

would she fast even though the temperatures in her tank have stayed constant?

If it has only been a week and a half and she is still eating just not as much and the temps of the tank are correct,, I would say not to worry just yet. It is very common for geckos to go off food at one time or another. Give her a couple of days with no interaction at all(no food no holding nothing) then start to introduce a food source, then a few days after that if she is back to normal you can start to handle her again. She may just be a little stresed out. Let her just relax. Keep her hide moist and the temps at 90 on the hot side. I think she will be fine.

Sleep, what is that???????
Just my thoughts and opinions based on my experiences.

That's the thing, she has not eaten anything for about 1.5 weeks, and I don't think it's stress because she tries to climb onto my hand if it's in the tank. She'll wait for me on her rock until i put my hand in. Then she climbs on it right away, but I will try leaving her be for a few days to see if that helps though. Thanks for the help
