Is corn cobb a suitable substrate also or just the aspen shavings?
Thanks
I used corn cob in dry-substrate cages with success. The danger is if the snake ingests some, because the stuff swells when wet and could possibly cause blockage. But, it has never happened to my snakes on it. I either feed in a containers or else lay the thawed rodent on a plastic shoebox lid in the cage.
It molds if wet or humid, so like I said, in a dry cage it is fine.
Aspen is the standard and probably the all-around best or one of the best substrates. I prefer the looks of corncob in arid snake cages. I know of a breeder who has snakes nearly 20 years old that have been kept on corncob most of that time.
