Referred from the Python forum...RE: Rock Python

Rodan Mar 05, 2004 12:41 AM

Was referred by someone in the Python forum, to pop in over here with a question I had in that forum, here's the exact post...

Picked up a young female African Rock at a show last week, and been having some issues feeding her. Hasnt been too long yet, so not overly concerned, but just trying to make sure I have plenty of ideas for if I need to use them. So far I've tried fresh killed, F/T, and tried live tonight. Have tried both mice, and a rat. As far as I know, she's CB. Any suggestions?

All I can say is that rocks can be pretty high strung and that maybe she just needs a longer adjustment period. Just be patient and let her acclimate to her new environment for another week or two and then try her with a nice juicy medium rat (she sounds about 3 or 4 feet by the description of being "young", being offered mice, but probably being an 03 animal as it is still too early in 04 for her to be a baby).

Rock pythons are really intelligent for snakes and she will soon learn about her new home and about you. It won't take long.

Yeah, she's an 03, and about 3.5ft long. I was thinking she just needed time. Seems really healthy otherwise, aside from the fact that she now has a bit of skin missing near her tail from the damn mouse I put in there the other day, she did grab it a couple times, but never got a good hold on it, and it chomped into her pretty good once. After about 25 mins, I took it out, whacked it, and tossed it in the freezer for something else that will eat it. I'll attach a pic of her here.
