Girls are acting up......anyone got any thoughts.

RedQuake Mar 05, 2004 10:08 AM

Hi all, Heres the problem. Since i returned the girls back to the 40 gal after cleaning it out and putting in more hides i've noticed Dot being very uptight. When i put mealworms into the bowl, she not only eats every last one, but she also stands over top of the bowl preventing anyone else from eating. This morning i had to hand feed Abby cause Dot wouldn't let her near the mealies. Just now i heard a bit of a fuss and when i looked found both Dot and Lily flicking their tails back at forth at eachother. I'm sure Dot is the instigator and i've got other tanks setup so i can move her which i think is best.

I just don't understand why all of a sudden she's acting like this. I know before she was quite bullheaded but all of them showed that type of behaviour now and then. The end result of Dot and Lily's confrontation was Dot moving on top of the humid hide. I'm not sure if she's trying to prove a point by getting up higher or if she Lily put her in her place. In either case Dot is the one moving.

Any tips are appreciated

P.S. i feed approx. 70-80 mealworms to the girls, sometimes twice a day, so about 15 each (their bowl is for the most part always full). Could that not be enough??? Should i put them all into individual bins at feeding time??? Or see what happens when i remove Dot?
Thanks

Females are.... well females j/k. They can act up for any reason. I would seperate the trouble maker. If you want to keep them all together I would move the aggressive one out for a few days then try bringing her back in after the others have settled in.

Ya we can be a bit of a pain now can't we hehehe. Dot seems to be the one causing trouble. Nala just walked over Abby and is sitting out with Lily resting her head on Nala's back. The rest of them seem to get along alright. Zoe is off in another hide but i've never seen any trouble from her.

I'm plugging in the UTH on the other tank and it won't take long to heat up...then i'll move Dot. In the mean time i'm watching them and all seem to have settled down
