Pondering Phantasticus

lovelyleopards Mar 05, 2004 02:32 PM

Hi Guys,

So I'm thinking about buying some imported WC phantasticus that should be arriving in a month or so. To those of you with experience breeding them - is it better to have a pair or a colony? What size enclosure for a colony? And how many males, a single male or two? Thanks for any input.

Hi, I keep a colony of phants in a 36 inch (length) x 18 inch (width) x 20 inch (height) enclosure. I have two males and four females in the enclosure, also a trio of ebenaui. It is planted out very thick with real and artificial plants, there are branches and cork bark to climb and hide on. I tend to find the males have territories of their own and do not cross them but the females wander every where. I feed the enclosure every three days with around 30 crickets and spray the enclosure at least twice a day to encsure they don't dehydrate. The temps are stable at around 75 degrees. I have a 2% uvb light on, mainly so I can see them, this creates a warmer area near to the top of the enclosure, rasiing the temps up to about 78 degrees.
They are great fun to watch and keep, I have had mine for over a year in this type of set up with no signs of aggression and all animals keeping a stable weight (I weigh them every month - paraniod mother!).
