Quick breeding question.

geckoman2000 Mar 05, 2004 03:13 PM

I just got a new male he is 40grams. I am planning on breeding him but im going to give him a couple months to acclimate and make sure he is healthy. my question is does it matter if hes a little smaller than the female. Im expecting him to get a bigger because he is only 9 months old. What the earliest age you would breed your males at also what weight?

Thanks

By the time he is done with his quarentine he should be more than ready. I think that at 9 mos. and 45 grams is a good size. The bigger the better. So make sure he has plenty to eat during his quarentine and he'll be rearing to go.

When breeding, age does not matter near as much as weight. Most people say 45 grams is the right weight but others have done it at 40 grams. If you keep him a 2-3 months without breeding and you fat'n him up. He will be up to 50g in no time flat. At this wieght, the range must be at least 10 grams off. But, when they are older over the 60's gram mark, you can breed with a larger difference.
The male doesn't have to be bigger then the female, he just has to be close and able to show he is domanant. They won't breed if she pushes him around.
Hope this helps. And Good luck.

When I said at least 10 grams off, I ment at most 10 grams apart so they are in the same size range, sorry.
