shedding trouble

hepcatmoe Mar 05, 2004 04:18 PM

hey there, my mali recently shed or is in the process of sheding. regardless there is a little flap of skin that shed from the top of her head and is still atached just below the neck to her back. it has been there for a couple of days now and it has never happened before. so today i tried giving her a bath for the first time. i filled the bathtub with an inch of warm water and let her sit in it for a while. i thought she would be freaking out the whole time as she has never had a bath before, but she was totally calm. it seemed to relax her. anyways she puffed up and after about five minutes i tried tugging on the little piece of skin to see if it would come off easily. no such luck. all that happened was i dragged her across the bathtub a little. so now she is back in her cage basking under the light, but i am still just a little worried. let me know what is up. thanx

Apparently uros don't shed as easily as some other lizards. Don't try to pull the flap off, for fear of damaging the skin beneath. You can continue doing a soak now and then and dab some mineral oil (baby oil) on the spot. Rocks and other rough surfaces help them rub the shed off on their own, too. I have trimmed away hanging flaps, too, until the stuck part comes off on its own.
